Cold Weather Paddling - How To Dress There is no reason to stop kayaking once the weather turns cold... unless the water has frozen over. If you are dressed properly cold weather paddling can be invigorating and fun. It is simply a matter of wearing the right gear and keeping your digits and toes dry and toasty.

The major point to remember when kayaking in cold weather is to layer your clothing.

First wear a layer of clothes that wicks the moisture away from your body such as a Hydroskin shirt.

Then if it is cold you will want an insulating layer such as a fleece or a sweater.

Third wear a waterproof jacket and waterproof pants. If you end up getting wet, no matter what you are wearing you will be very chilled. So it is important to have this waterproof layer.

Protect your feet, your hands. Proper water-booties will keep your feet warm, dry and happy. They still allow for the flexibility you may need in your kayak or for walking on rocks while protecting your feet from potentially freezing water. If the weather is extremely cold you may want to add some watersport socks for extra insulation. A good pair of winter kayaking gloves will allow your hands to stay dry and protected. Again if the weather is extremely cold you could add some glove liners for extra warmth.

The last thing to remember is to always keep your head warm! If you are not protecting your head in the cold weather your body will lose a lot of heat. My favorite hat to wear while cold weather paddling is a comfy fleece toque. If you are whitewater kayaking then look for a thinner hat that will fit easily under your helmet.

Many kayakers love to use a wetsuit or a drysuit. These can both be extremely effective in keeping out the cold and wetness of winter paddling. There are a couple of differences between the two that you need to be aware of though.

A wetsuit is a one-piece suit that will trap your body heat in to keep you warm. They are flexible and usually fairly comfortable and great to use in temperatures of 50 degrees or higher. Most people will use a wetsuit as a base layer and add insulating layers on top.
A drysuit is again a one-piece suit that not only keeps you warm but also keeps the water out. They are usually made with Gore-Tex and are completely waterproof. Usually one would put insulating layers underneath, but no matter what you wear under a drysuit you can be sure that you will never ever feel the water. Drysuits can be extremely expensive so unless you're a hard core cold weather paddler, a wetsuit will probably work just fine.

There is no reason to be worried about keeping warm and dry while cold weather kayaking. There is ample gear available for all types of kayaking weather. If you can keep warm and dry you will likely find cold weather paddling to be an awesome experience.

Beachwear Outfits Disasters To Hit The Catwalk In 2009 It is, of course, true that catwalk collections are not really supposed to display looks that could be worn to your local supermarket without turning too many shocked heads; they are instead supposed to provide initial inspiration in the form of exaggerated pieces which will then be diluted for the mass market in much the same way as car manufacturers use concept cars to whet the appetite.

Yet even though we are familiar with images of catwalk models wearing ridiculously outlandish or hideous apparel, there are still those pieces or ensembles that have the power to shock more than others. Spring/Summer 2009 was a particularly great season for notably ridiculous catwalk fashions, especially when it comes to swimwear and beachwear. Here are the top ten howlers from the swimwear that hit the catwalks last year

Many designers tried to make 2009 the year of the 'cut-away monokini', essentially a swimsuit that looks like it has been hacked at with a pair of scissors. Not only did these little numbers look uncomfortable and likely to produce bizarre tan lines, they also looked space-age ridiculous.

Carmen Marc presented a black monokini that looked like a swimsuit coming apart at the seams and Amanda Wakeley dressed a model in a cut-away, screen-printed white one piece that made the model look as though she'd fashioned her swimwear from an old billboard poster. But by far the worst offender was Herve Leger by Max Azria's hideous bandage-looking pieces. The intricate straps and cut-away sections looked far from fantastic and even caused some unwanted exposure on the catwalk.

Another trend that provided a few catwalk disasters was the one-shoulder bikini look. As demonstrated very well by Marios Schwab, Max Azria and Victoria's Secret, this awkward trend for one-strapped bikinis tended to look less fashion-forward and more as though the models didn't know how to put a bikini top on properly.

Gottex's black one shoulder cut-away black one-piece swimsuit was also a catwalk nightmare. Not only did the item feature an entirely random hole across the left of the model's torso, it also appeared that any so-called gaps in the garments had been very loosely sewn up with what can only be described as straw.

Further disastrous catwalk moments were created by the accessorising of swimwear which in itself wasn't that bad. Hermes, for example, sent a model down the runway wearing a stylish brown one-piece, but also made her wear a heavy winter coat, cowboy hat and carry a cow-skin suitcase, not a great look for the beach!

Similarly Danielle Scutt sent one of her bikini-clad models down the catwalk wearing a scarf and hat, which is vaguely odd since if it was cold enough for a scarf and hat, you'd have thought the poor model would be wearing something more than just a bikini!

Not to be outdone Elie Tahari dressed one of her models in a fairly chic monochrome one-piece - and then accessorised it with a tailored suit jacket, handbag, heels and earrings. More office wear than beach wear.

Let's hope the beachwear concepts for 2010 show some improvement!

Johansson has been cast in a superhero role in the upcoming "Iron Man" sequel and, fulfilling the dreams of men everywhere, she'll wear a latex catsuit for the role. As she's prepared for the role by changing her diet, however, some media outlets have made the "diet" out to be far more intense than it actually is.

Said Johansson, "Claims have been made that I've been on a strict workout routine regulated by costars, whipped into shape by trainers I've never met, eating sprouted grains I can't pronounce." She went on to say that to actually lose the 14 pounds continuously referred to by the media "I'd have to part with both arms. And a foot." Johansson went so far as to quote statistics from the National Eating Disorders Association and calling various media publications "reckless and dangerous" by incorrectly conveying her story.

Said Johansson, "Yes, celebrities are just like us. They struggle with demons and overcome obstacles and have annoying habits and battle vices. That said, I would be absolutely mortified to discover that some 15-year-old girl in Kansas City read one of these articles' and decided she wasn't going to eat for a couple of weeks so she too could crash diet' and look like Scarlett Johansson."
